Digital Twin

Prepare your building for the future. So with maximum comfort and minimum energy consumption. A digital copy of the building forms the foundation for building optimization and sustainability.

Energy hubs & Congestion

The energy grid is getting full. Increasingly, companies or business parks are told that the grid operator cannot make extra power available. The solution to this problem can be found by creating more flexibility in your own energy system.

Sources of flexibility include solar panels, batteries, charging stations and buildings. Buildings are thermal buffers into which heat pumps, air handlers and chillers can be switched on at tactical moments. Thermal buffers (water) can also be additionally added to buildings to create additional flexibility.

It requires intelligent energy and climate controls to make this whole interplay of installations run optimally. Available capacities over the grid connection are limited over the day. For the various installations and customers behind the main connection, they are not only limited, but the available power also varies over the day. At night, for instance, more power is available for charging stations or HVAC installations. And during daytime the primary process prefers that requires more power during those times.

Algorithms predict the energy profiles for a building, business park or area. The primary process is leading. Things like batteries, charging stations and HVAC installations can adjust accordingly and are allocated power per time block. The ecoBuilding algorithms ensure efficient deployment of climate installations to achieve the desired comfort. Climate systems are switched on 24 hours in advance within the available capacities, taking into account solar radiation, cooling curves and thermal buffering.

Despite the limitations on the energy network, this allows you to realize that renovation or new construction plan. Contact us for an introduction and to explore the possibilities for your building or business park.

Effective use of limited Connection Capacity

As a result of limited grid capacity and congestion issues buildings are often getting a limited connection to the energy grid. Our algorithms effortlessly include this capacity limitation within the optimization. This involves looking 24 hours ahead at how the building can be heated and cooled with the means available, such as the capacity of the connection, the possibility of storing energy in (thermal) batteries and/or the availability of sustainable energy.

Solving Congestion problems through HVAC

If there are congestion problems or if it is desirable to reduce the capacity at certain times, our algorithms can take this into account. In that case, a little extra cooling or heating is done in advance or energy is stored in a different way so that less energy from the energy network needs to be used during congestion. This way congestion can be prevented and building users can be compensated for the flexibility they offer from their HVAC systems.

Optimal control of solar panels, batteries or dynamic energy prices

The Digital Twin focuses on optimization of the total energy system. The availability of energy from solar panels, wind energy storage in batteries or thermal buffers are taken in to account for most optimal utilization. Even dynamic energy prices that can differ per hour are included in the optimization. This way sustainable energy can be utilized in the most optimal way. And a maximum return on investment is feasibly for your investments in sustainable measures.

What our clients say

This is exactly what I expect from a smart climate controller.

Philip Verheye

Colleagues working in the offices are convinced by the indoor climate and comfort level, on the other hand, the benefits of energy consumption become clear when making a comparison with other office buildings.

Patrick Arnold

How cool that I get to experience this technology before I retire.

André den Biggelaar

The ecoBuilding simulations showed us exactly which battery capacity type we had to use in combination with the available connection capacity.

Patrick Kennis

The pilot demonstrated substantial energy savings of as much as 35%. We are very happy about that!

Roy Dols

EcoBuilding is now running well and we are saving significantly. Thanks to VB Optimum, many optimisations have become visible that we didn't know about. Now we are steering the installation in a targeted way to optimal operation.

Erwin van Gorkom

My climate system has become much easier to understand thanks to the insights and VB Optimum knowledge.
